HI,
In this 2012 feb, my stay in hk will be 7 years (legally),however i was out of hk for almost 7 months in 2011. Will the immigration keep up those records (out of hk for more than 6 months) if i apply for hong kong permanent ID cards?

The answer is yesl. when you fill out the forn for PR, one of the sections you have to fill in is if you were absent from HK during the past 7 years for any periods of 6 months or more and you have to explain why. There is no point in lying about this because Immigration have a full set of movement records and they will know when you were out of town. Just because you were absent for 7 months does not mean you will not get your PR, As long as you still had a residence here in HK and maintained bank accounts, etc, you will be okay. It's only if you left HK for good that you will have problems.

The Permanent Immigration Division will look at all of the circumstances of your application for permanent residency to determine whether you have taken Hong Kong as your “ordinary residence” through the period. Therefore you will have to explain your 7 months exit from Hong Kong because it will appear on the immigration records and indeed you must disclose the same in your application for residency (which is a sworn statement where you verify the truth of all matters therein).
Permanent residency is a very coveted status in Hong Kong and we would suggest it is certainly well worth getting professional advice as to the presentation of your case so that it may be looked at in the most favourable like by the authorities.

But permanent is not "Permanent" my kids were born here and after divorce went back to the UK with thier mother. They came out to vist me every so often and I would go to the UK every so often. Unbeknowen to us there was a spell of 36 months that they did not come to HK either holidays somewhere else or I went to UK and they lost "permanent" status now they have Right of Abode only because of thier birth
