Hello,
I recently moved to HK and have an iPhone 4S that is CDMA. Likely nothing I can do with it here, beyond using it on WiFi. I need to get a cell phone for calls exclusively, will get an iPad when next version comes out. Can anyone suggest whether I should sign a contract with SmarTone/3, etc. or just buy an inexpensive phone and get a sim card. I will likely be here 2+ years, but don't like the idea of being locked into one provider. Don't care much about the phone, just want reliable network and reasonable cost. Thanks for any suggestions or for pointing me to other thread. Kiam

If I read u correctly, your CDMA probably isn't compatible with local networks, so u want to stick a normal voice only sim card, and use wifi for Internet. I guess any network is fine, a lot of my friends use one2free, Smartone with no complaints. 3hk seems to have the most complaints from what I hear. I just checked one2free and they have a plan for 70 bucks a month. http://one2free.hkcsl.com/jsp/service_charges/one2free_service_plan/one2free_service_plan.jsp
You could also try a prepaid, get from 7 eleven to try for the first couple of months. I use Smartone, and it's fine!
