sudden regression in potty training.....

ORIGINAL POST

my 3yr-old has been successfully potty trained half a year ago.. until now. from a week ago, she started peeing while playing at school, and just started doing it at home too.

i'm really frustrated and dont know what to do...

we recently let go of our helper (who she happily played with for short spells every day) as i decided to raise her on my own. at the same time, i've put her at school for slightly longer hours 2 days a week. I feel like she may be upset about all this (although not showing it) and i'm worried she's really stressed.

any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated..

Kimmy,

You should be very proud of your baby for being potty trained at only two and a half. As a mother of numerous children, who have all had various successes and failures in all areas of parenting, I should tell you not to worry. Don't feel frustrated for even one minute. It will all come good. Just be patient. She is still very young.

Your baby is doing great. Accidents happen, to all of us. She may be feeling a little stressed over any changes going on. She won't be 'really stressed' as you are her main caregiver, and she is already used to kindergarten. Children are tough but they need lots of reassurance that they are perfect (in your eyes) and good 'girls'.

The time that you spend in your life with young children is such a small proportion of your life, that it is not worth worrying about any of the ups and downs of parenting a toddler or young child.

Your daughter has lots of time to get back to her usual routine and toileting skills.

Give her lots of cuddles and attention and don't make a big deal of any accidents. Make it clear to her that you think nothing of any accident that she has and acknowledge the accident by reminding her to pee pee in the potty next time. Keep reminding her to go!

Best wishes, I'm in the same boat!

Most kids actually go through this stage -- playing is so much fun; she's really in an imagination-heavy stage, and she is learning just how long she can hold it in because getting up is such a disruption...

Just make sure that she feels comfortable using the toilet at school. Some kids don't like to use "outside" toilets; other kids can't get enough of them [my son was so excited to use the toilet on the plane that he manufactured enough pee to go every half hour or so for an entire trans-Pacific flight!]
