Hi All,
We have been living in HK for 4 years and with 2 kids, I think that now its a good time to buy a car. I have already thought about it for long and am convinced we need a car.
I need your help in deciding about which car to buy and where to buy it from.
I need a 7 seater car. The budget is around 50k hk$ (i know its obivously quite limited) but I can stretch it to 90k if incase I get a good deal.
Here are few of the criteria . Can you please have a look and share your knowledge abotu HK Car market, i have seen a few online sites but i dont have a first hand knowledge of the cars.
1. 7 seater
2. ideally not more than 10 years old. so nothing older than 2002. Ideally 2005 model or newer
3. Jeep type vehicles are preferred. otherwise MPV are fine too.
4. pls tell me about some good popular models that satisfy these criteria and are also popular in HK i.e. they have good resale value , incase I need to sell it.
5. 50k hk$ budget or can stretch it to 90k if some good deals.
6. apart from the models, please can you tell me about some trusted sources where I can buy it from? I also plan to get a 3rd party inspection of the vehicle.
Many thanks for your help!!

thanks, yes I have gone through it in detail. But I was looking more into first hand information from the people who know the market here in HK
About the popular models with good resale price and not-so-expensive maintenance. Also what can I expect for my budget generally

Some dealers can arrange financing so you can get a better car downpayment of $50kand then monthlies of $4-5K for 5 years can get a very nice 2-3 yrs old car worth $400k or there abouts

Please also google for gocarsite and check the price there. You can also check the car malls at Wanchai Convention Center, Kowloon Bay (HITEC), etc. There are second hand car shops all around.
For 50K second hand car, you can perhaps forget about the resale values of the car after a few year. Perhaps if selling them is concerned then you should stick to Japanese ones. The American/European ones are no good at this price range.
Stretching the 50 to 90K may get you some old (Say 2003'ish) Toyota MPV's. Under 90k your best bet may be Toyota Picnic. Honda Odyssey of an older vintage, etc. I would think the Picnic may be the best in this range and milage.
You may be wise to stay away from Jeep'ish cars. You can perhaps go for Peugeot 7 seater in this price range. The problem is that by the time the car is around 10 years old it needs to be repaired and European cars are expensive to repair due to parts cost. Whilst Japanese ones remains more managable.
Please also keep 5 seater as an option. You will then have more cars to choose.
