Hi to everyone on Asia Expat.....

I'm in a bit of a dilemma folks....Just to give you all a bit of my background...

I left the UK last August with my wife....she has a good job here and I accompanied her....I'm on a dependants visa so I'm in a very fortuante position that I can work anywhere...

My background is in print & packaging.....Im a really good project manager within this industry.....& I had many great accounts in the United Kingdom.

My dilemma is that I have applied for nearly 60 jobs on various emplyment websites.....nearly 80% do not even have the courtesy to reply.

The companies that do reply to me & have me attend interviews which by the way ALWAYS go great....

The specific jobs that I apply for do not ask for Cantonese as a second language.....but this always seem to be the reason they give me when they say I'm not suitable....even though through the interviews etc etc....language is never an issue or indeed is ever mentioned!

It's slowly driving me crazy.....I have always worked, & I am really having a difficult time here in Hong Kong not working....I've tried Voluntary etc etc.....

Anybody out there willing to give me a chance????

THANK YOU!!

Hi Lanny,

I really appreciate your reply.....and I understand what your saying.....but....If on the application you state that you have just relocated to HK from the UK then one would assume they know you don't speak Cantonese.....its like I said....final interviews go well then the language barrier is mentioned...and in my line of work the majority of the customers are European, America, Canada etc....I just think for an Asia company to have a European dealing with European customers makes wise business sense....( just my thought ).

I would concider learning Cantonese, but i think by the time I have a good understanding then it will be time to go back to Blighty.....its also a bloody hard language to learn....

Thank you, once again for your post and advice. Have a great day.
