Hi, I really need your advice desperately.
Not sure where to begin.
We have Pet Question : is it hard to ship animals (7 lbs dog/ 15lbs cat) with us from Canada to HK. What is a good place to live that is pet friendly or is there any?
School Question: What's the best kindergarten school and where...
Location for Families and pet ie. air quality, safety, etc
There is so much to learn and so much to read...
I am hoping to move to HK Long Term enough for my daughter to be fluent in Chinese since I am chinese and my husband is caucasian. Probably till she is in secondary/primary...
Also,
really curious and confused about Local and International school..It sound really confusing with the fees and Tutors and lifestyle..I guess life isn't simple :)
Anyways, please let me know what you know...
LOVE to hear from yalls

Hi cara, thanks so much for the quick reply! That's some very useful information. This is Wayne, the husband of Amy, who posted the original message. We checked out the kindergarten (they even have an English website, that's great!). So you're saying there's no fee, as in it's a public school? Sai Kung is a bit far (if working in or near Central) maybe but I think it's probably a nice area. I lived and tutored in Hong Kong for a couple of years before and had a student out towards Sai Kung (in Marina Cove) though I never went all the way out to Sai Kung town. I know it's accessible by minibus but there must be a big bus out there too huh?
I found a list of schools "Admitting Greater Number of
Non-Chinese Speaking Children" that might also be suitable, what do you think?

We looked a bit at the International Pet Travel website too and it looks like it's a great resource.
Thanks again for the great reply, we were very encouraged to know there are people out there who can help us make our goal to move to HK more successful.

Hello NuinHK...I guess you can say the Canadian lifestyle is good . Still debating on bringing the cat or not because he stresses out really easy...and he super demanding..he is on diet food 3 times a day and when he doesn't get fed...he goes around the house and knocks everything over. Where are you located in HK? and what do you consider is a good place to live in HK?
let me know. :-)

Thanks everyone for your replies.
riffraff, do you think there's any chance that a very small dog could travel on a plane with us?
also one thing we want to consider is we want the area that we live to be a little less crowded/busy so when we go out we have something quieter to come home to. obviously it's hk and you can never find an area with total peace and quiet but it's something to consider.
cara, our child learning cantonese is not the only reason for moving to hk (though it is one reason), but it is also because I lived there before and loved it and would love to advance my career and have my family experience the excitement of such a wonderful place. right now we live in a very small city in Canada and it's easy to get caught up in petty little local/family problems and we want a fresh start in hk. i work in the insurance industry and I know they have opportunities there in my field (actuarial), so I'd probably be working in or near Central or at least on HK island more than likely. i lived in Taikoo before so I know what that's like but I think my wife might want a place a little less crowded, but I'd also like something not too far from where I would be working, tho maybe I have to figure out where that would actually be...
anyway, thanks again for the info

If working in Central, Park Island is convenient and affordable - also very pet friendly. It has more local mix compared with DB and not crowded. Ferry to Central runs frequently at peak hours and there is bus service to Tsing Yi, Tsuen Wan Kwai Fong and the Airport. You can also consider Tung Chung too as the line to Central is direct (not sure how pet friendly though).
