Double rental agency fee, HELP!

I have been looking for an apartment to rent and today looked with a different agent. He showed me a place I had already seen with another agent the previous day and was able to negotiate a great discount for me on the rent. I signed and transferred the deposit earlier. Now the original agent has contacted me to say she knows I have rented the apartment and wants a fee too!!!

No one has explained this to me and its over £700 that I really can't afford. Any advice please?

If you haven't signed a EAA Form 6 then too bad for the first agent. If you have signed the form, then you might have a problem.

bob, is that right? i thought it was common for the landlord and the tenant split the fee 50/50 (one month rent).

I was told if they found somewhere we would have to pay them 50% of the first months rent.
