I see China is stirring up trouble with pretty much all its neighbours again. Declaring the South China Sea a "core interest" is code for "we will fight for it". So something occurred to me last night, if China were to go to war with, say, the Philippines, what is the status of HK and in particular the Pilipino workers here? Does HK remain neutral essentially or does it join the war automatically and the Philippinos are expelled or incarcerated?
And though I fervently wish for peace I cant imagine a war with the Philippines or Japan not involving the USA. So the question is pertinent to US citizens in HK as well as US allies like Australians and the UK (if they got entangled in a potential conflict).

With a family in HK I have been monitoring the situation for a few months. Lets say I am a concerned parent :)
