Hi all
moving to hk with hubbys job and i will initially be a stay at home wife. can anyone give me advice on accomidation, i would like to be in an area safe to walk the streets alone and close by to shops, restaurants, places to meet new friends etc. hubby will be working in kwun tong so commute needs to be easy for him as for me. seen clearwater and like the look of it but are there many expats there also ocean shores is raved about so wondered if any of you live in those areas to give advice.

lots of expats in clearwater bay, but not really a 'walk the streets' (street) area...used to live in Ocean Shores...closer to shopping and restaurants, and a few expats, but certainly still the vast majority are local...that said, i (a western daddy) met aa few moms in the playground with my daughter...not sure the same would be said of someone without kids...
but you needn't be afraid of ANYWHERE in HK as far as safety goes...it is an extremely safe city (yes, even for lone women at night)...
Tiu Keng Leng is a good choice for easy commute to Kwun Tong as well as HK Island

The commute from CWB or Sai Kung to Kwun Tong won't be easy..

I didn't say you can't get from sai Kung to Kwun tung... ^^
BTW did you even consider they may be driving?? Taking the public bus is not everyones cup of tea...

That's unless the traffic is as you described in a recent thread "living in Sai Kung" where you described traffic as being mostly at a standstill and public transport being a nightmare LOL..
Claire1 my advice is that you better see for yourself before basing your decision on one persons unreliable advice.. If you read through the threads on this forum you will quickly learn that Sai Kung is far from being a convenient location from which to commute. Single lane highways that often look like car parks and no MTR line... enough said.

i'd have to say if ANYONE'S Sai Kung advice is 100% reliable, it's Cara's...rob_378, do you live in Sai Kung?

Dear Claire - all depending on your budget for accommodation and if you will have car. There is quite a difference with Ocean Shores, TKO and Clearwater Bay apartment/villa. Taking into account you will be leasing, OS will be around HKD20K/mth, whereas CWB over HKD30K/mth for approx 1000sqft+ flat. OS is typical HK residential complex along MTR line. Nice views of harbour/mountain. CWB villas/apartments mainly concentrated in Razor Hill and SilverStrand areas. Razor Hill mainly 1200-1750sqft low-rise apartments - all with security/management and nearby supermarket. Silverstrand apartments start at 865sqft to 3000sqft+ villas. Nearby supermarket as well. Living in CWB is convenient driving, cab and/or public transport. Fresh air and quiet/peaceful. I would suggest CWB - stay away fr Sai Kung (traffic/congested) and do not suggest village houses. Sometimes too complicated with the villagers, parking and the increasing break-ins.
Shld yr budget be around HKD30K suggest Razor Hill - Greenview Garden, Razor Park or Greenpark. Silver strand - Casa Bella duplex. As for meeting friends/etc, can consider volunteer/charity work around CWB/Sai Kung. Summary - CWB offers far better standard of living and cleaner air over TKO with its fresh easterly breezes. Many expats, Westerners and Western Educated families. Good luck. Feel free to contact me if you need any housing assistance or have any queries.
