Property agent added a clause after the tenancy was signed

Hi,

Could someone give us some advise on the law regarding rental agreement.

We signed a tenancy agreement a few weeks ago and the property agents took our copyof the tenancy to register it and to do the stamp duty.

We received our copy today and have noticed that they hand wrote a clause (signed by the landlord) telling us that they can come to the flat at anytime with 72h notice. (exactly what we did not want, and what they confirmed will not happen until the tenancy agreement will arrive at the end).

How can they add a clause after you signed the tenancy agreement? What can we do?

Thanks

if you have not counter signed the respective addition, it's not valid.

Hi cookie,

Thanks for your reply.

We signed the contract, but not the clause that was added after. On the side of the clause we can see the signature of the landlord and her initial letters...of course, ours are not on it.

What we are worried about is how can we prove that it was added after?

We find out that she want to sell and propably want to show the flat as much as she can.

Thanks

Have you spoken to the agent yet? Speak to them and firmly let them know you will contact the consumer council and your lawyers.

Thanks!

Ok I did contact them and have been very firm.

They told me to forget about this clause, the landlord will not use it anymore since we are not happy with it... but they said it verbally (after 3 phone conversation). Is an email will be enough to confirm that this clause is void, or should we ask to redo a contract?

Renters/purchasers should always change the door lock as soon as you toke on the flat. I was able to change the locks myself and just bought a good quality lock from a hardware store. Do this or have someone else do it for you.

Remember to keep the old lock and have it reinstalled at the end of your lease.

If ever you have an owner who complains, it is obvious that he has tried ot enter when you were not home.
