I'm from Hong Kong and...
I need to get my daughter baptized but I'm having trouble doing so. I've checked the requirements of some churches.
I just got her Godmother-to-be to get here so only recently are we going to get her baptized.
Rosary Church needs my daughter to be a few weeks old...she's already about to turn 1 so I can't get her baptized there.
I was baptized as a catholic when I was six months but I didn't practice their faith, which is probably why I'm a single mother at a young age.
I haven't been to a church for 18 years and every church I know that I've checked out requires me to be an active member.
I'm not married, the father of my daughter ditched me the moment he found out I was pregnant and they need the "parents" to be there. I'd be the only parent present.
Is there any way to get my daughter baptized without me having to be an active member or married?
Just for my daughter's sake. I want her to be able grow up knowing the right way and the teachings of a church.

If you've waited this long, maybe wait until your child is old enough to decide on religious affiliation for herself?
The question of formalizing the god-parent is of course an important consideration. My wife and I have chosen to leave these details in our wills. Certainly we don't need a religion to endorse this decision.
Your desire to follow a tradition is understandable, but is it really worth the effort? Sounds like you have enough on your plate already without having to worry about conforming to 'man-made' rules that purport to allow ethereal favours.
We don't need a church to know the 'right way'. Common sense has existed far longer than any church.
Best of luck to you and your little girl.

I'm an aethiest and I really don't understand what your dilemma is. Why not take Mr Bigglesworth's advice and leave your daughter to make up her own mind in due course and not let the church get its hooks into her at the earliest stage of her life. I am so grateful that my parents did not have me christened or baptised, even though they forced me to attend church regularly, that I would not allow any of my children to be indoctrinated by the church without them being able to exercise free will.

I'm a catholic and I believe that my dauhter has to be baptized just as every catholic family has their children baptized. If you don't share the same beliefs as mine, please at least repect them. If you don't know what christening is for, go search. My daughter has every right to change her faith if she so wishes to. If she doesn't, she can recieve "confirmation" and then attend sunday school.

Hi Rosario,
I'm with you. I baptized my boy when he was 2 years old. Just find out which is the church that is in your catchment area. Find the Godparents which should be catholic and should hold a catholic marriage certificate.
Go to the church talk to the priest and set the date. It is not your daughter's fault that her father ditched you, she has the right to be baptized.
If the priest asks you if you go to church just say yes and start going from now on.
