Online shops in HK with good quality and reasonably priced meat and fish

Fresh Meat

I have been buying fresh meat in Hong Kong for many years and am frequently disappointed by the quality and taste. Can someone explain why the fresh meat (eg chilled Tenderloin, Fillet, Ribeye) is so tasteless? Even the prime cuts sold at top end restaurants and super markets (Great Olivers CitySuper etc) tend to lack flavour and taste (compared to US EU Aus NZ meat) and are incredibly expensive

Frozen Meat

Interestingly the frozen meat from specialist frozen meat shops (not super markets) seems to retain its flavour better plus is $100- $300 per kilo for top end cuts (rather than $500-$1500 per kilo). I assume this is because it is flash frozen (snap frozen) at source.

Given you can buy a top end cut of frozen meat (Tenderloin, Fillet, Ribeye) for 1/3 price of an average cut of fresh beef (round Chunk etc) it is hard to argue with. Most districts on HK Island have specialist Chinese frozen meat shops and are worth checking out (even though some have limited English). There are also online shops selling frozen meat.

If you have any thoughts or suggestions post below, here are the places I use with English language sites:

Meat.Com.HK (Hing Lung Foods)

Very good quality frozen meat and fish (Beef, pork Lamb Chicken Fish). Top end Beef (Tenderloin, Fillet, Ribeye) ranges from $150-$300 per kilo with online delivery. If you go to the retail shop in Sheung Wan you can select your cut and and butcher will slice fillet to order (eg slice 1kg fillet into 1”+ cuts of steak). If you sign up as a member you will also get a 10%+ discount for picking up. I tend to buy the best cuts of NZ Aus US meat as some of the cheaper cuts (Brazilian / Sth American) was tough and chewy

I don't do the delivery thing, but Pacific Gourmet are always freindly and helpful. I've only ever gone to the Horizons Plaza shop. If you buy a slab of meat they'll cut it and vacuum seal into servings for you.

I use Pacific Gourmet at Horizon Plaza occasionally and I've just used their online delivery service for the first time ... service was good, meat was excellent and it was cut just as I'd requested it. I also use South Stream online, on a weekly basis, and they also provide good service and good quality meat/fish.

I tried Wildc last week and they were 4.5 hrs late for the delivery and one of the fish had "turned bad" during the time in a hot unrefridgerated van, not impressed, I called to complain and was told that my order was small and out of the way so would always be towards the end of the delivery run !! wtf ! I for one am sticking wit Southstream Seafoods, 13 years and never a problem.

I used to get my meet from Pacific Gourmet, but since I've found TC Deli at Hang Hau Village, I've never turned back. Their website is very basic,

http://tcdeli.com/tcdelishop/home/

so do sign up for their weekly e-newsletter to get the latest deal. I normally get a whole chilled KingIsland Tenderloin (about 1.8kg), and asked them to trim out all the fat, cut up into 2" pcs, and they'll vacuum pack for you. It costs $500 for the whole tenderloin when it is on sale. Very friendly service. I highly recommand it.
