Car window tinting?

ORIGINAL POST

I was told this morning that tinting for car windows is actually illegal in HK and that I would have to remove the tint before I could register it. Very surprised by this as I bought the car with tints.

The guy said its normal for people to add and then remove tints every year. I dont really have a reason to disbeleive does anyone know if this is true?

I paid a bit more attention today while driving and noticed no car had tints I could see.

Thanks.

It is true, unless the car was manufactured WITH tinted windows then you will need to replace them every year for the MOT test...fact

Hi,

I am being told, even after removing the film, that the windows are to dark. They are manufacturered with some tint. I need to spend 30k HKD to replace 5 windows... this cant be right. The vendor wont pass the car because of this. Is there someone I can check with at the roads department?

The rules are pretty straightforward although not understood by all. What car is it? Have they given you the test results?

Its a 2006 Prado and every window, except the front, is tinted. They just told me the results over the phone and recomended I get the glass somewhere else that is cheaper. I cant find anythign specific on the transport department website apart from you cant tint windows. Nothing about them coming like that. Will give them a call tomorrow.
