HK Sevens ...

So, was anyone lucky enough to get a ticket in the ballot? ... NOT ME!!:-(

After many, many, years of attending the Sevens, after the whole family spent hours, upon hours, on the phone, on the computer, or queuing up, this is the first time we haven't been able to get tickets.

Do I think this is a fair system? Hell no!! Why not? ... Because some people out there who aren't particularly that bothered about whether they get a ticket or not, and would certainly never normally be bothered to spend hours trying to get one, have had the same chance as those ardent rugby supporters who try to get tickets every year! And the worst thing is, that they may have been successful!!

No, it's not fair! I'd rather take my chance on a phone-in, or even queuing up overnight!

Yes it's a strange system. I've got tickets and can't stand the game. Or lager.

boddingtons, were you lucky enough to get them through the ballot, or some other means? ... just interested, as everyone I've spoken to has been unsuccessful.

I don't think that matters - they all run similar schemes for distributing tickets.

boddingtons, just interested ... if you can't stand the game, then why bother applying for tickets through your recreation club ... tickets that are very hard to come by, that someone else, who really is interested in rugby, could have ... Unless, of course, you have been very kind and applied for them for friends who really want them ...?

intergrity, if you don't want to queue up overnight, that's fine ... those that really want a ticket, will ... And that's my point ... this ballot is unfair, because it's easy for those who aren't bothered about rugby to get tickets!

I do actually have 2 tickets, as we're members of the HKRFU, but it's still not enough for my family of 4 to go to the 7s. Not happy ... at all!!

In the good old days, we sent our amah to queue up for tickets.

Well, I didn't, I mostly used to get into a corporate box.

In the really good old days, we just used to rock up on the day and buy our tickets, as many as we liked.

Yes woods99, now, unfortunately, most of those tickets are going overseas, and those of us who have supported the 7s for many, many years are being left out in the cold. Something doesn't seem quite right ...

Interesting question. I was not successful in the ballot either and am yet to hear of someone that was.

I suppose one option is to join a rugby club?

woods99 - we were members of a rugby club for many years whilst our son and daughter both played rugby, but they eventually left to go to university, and whilst some clubs still allocate tickets to non-playing members (social), other clubs don't. Unfortunately, my husband and I are a little too old to playing rugby;-) We are members of HKRFU so we do get two tickets, but son & daughter not happy as will be the first 7s they have missed since living/growing up in HK ... actually, it'll probably be me who misses the 7s because had it not been for our kids playing rugby and getting tickets through their club for all these past years, we may not have been so lucky in the past. Hopefully, we'll hear of some spares going ....

I'm sure there will be loads available - probably right on this site - but just with a substantial mark-up. I'm sure many a non rugby fan saw the huge potential for easy cash with this one. Register your mom, dad, aunty, grandma, amah....
