My girlfriend and I plan to marry soon and subsequently live in her property. This property is currently in her sole name as is the mortgage. What is the process for for adding my name to the ownership and also changing the mortgag to a joint one? And also what are the likely costs?

So far I have received various conflicting bits of "folklore" so the advice of anyone who has real experience of this process would be appreciated

I am no expert, but have you thought about just going to the bank where the mortgage is held and asking them? They will tell you, for free, how to do it and if there are any fees.

Costs nothing to ask and you won't have to deal with 'folklore'.
