My best girlfriend is so wracked with worry. She is about to separate from her partner of 8 years. They are not married. They have a little girl 6 years old born in HK. The mother has an employment visa. She wants to stay in HK but is worried about the high living cost especially the rental for a decent place because she can't afford it by herself. If the partner wants the child to stay in HK is he required to help her on rental? To avoid court cost they plan to go to a mediator but it looks like he intends to give her a hard time. He is stating that he can provide a better financial future for the child and therefore the child should spend more time with him. I can't advise her, can anyone help? Does anyone know of a decent lawyer?

The best advice you can give is to tell her to hire a good lawyer.
