Have a Samsung HDTV bought in 2008. Now it has died on us except making clicking sound when switched on. I read there was a class-action law suit that compels Samsung to fix it for free only in the US but apparently not in HK. There goes corporate citizenship for Samsung (as far as I'm concerned.)
Has anyone encountered similar experience and how was it resolved for you? Would appreciate leads for a repairman. (Called Samsung service center and was told they would charge $800 for fetching it from our place). Cheers.

I called Mr. Lui at 9340-6421. He came when he said (at night) looked at it an fixed it on the spot. I have an LG about the same age and after doing loads of reading I found that the capacitors blow.
The easy way to check before you call him is open the back of your TV and look at the power supply board. Type "blown tv capacitors" in to Google pictures and you will see what they look like when they are blown (The top bulges up).
I asked Mr Lui to change all of them (even the good ones) and he charged $700. I turned it on and it was perfect. I was very happy with myself (for finding him) and his work.

Thanks, BM, for sharing. Will look into it and report back. Cheers.

An update: Called Mr. Lui. He came as promised and was courteous and professional. He fixed the problem in less than half an hour. The TV is now good as new. In case anyone wishes to use his service, he charges $100 for examining the TV. I was quoted $700 for fixing it. And I happily paid him $750.
BM, I guess I owe you a beer. Cheers.
