selling iphone in HK

Hi,

I often see people, usually one man or woman sitting in Central, or outside Apple in Causeway Bay, with a sign showing phones. They seem to just sit there all day.

I have been told they buy 2nd hand phones from you.

I want to upgrade to iphone 5, and have an iphone 4S that I will gladly sell to these people.

Any ideas how it works, and what price they pay?

Thank you

just ask a few different buyers... but 4s might be worth around $2900 now.

also, you can trade-in at some stores such as broadway

here is an update for others looking to trade in or sell there phone in HK.

I went to Broadway today, after calling and asking about trade in options. On the phone they advised I could trade in my iphone 4s 16gb for HK$2,900. So, on the way there I stop off at Three and change my sim card to a smaller one to fit the iphone 5. get to Broadway & they tell me they don't stock the iphone as too hard to get hold of, and haven't had any 'for ages'. Last time I walk into a broadway store.

Walked across the aisle to Fortress and they offer me HK$2,500, then start telling me there is this scratch & that problem - I walked out as it was a joke.

Finally walked over to the Apple Store. There was a lady sitting outside in a chair with a sign on her knees. Offered me HK$1600 to buy it. I counter-offered HK$2,200 and we settled on HK$2k.

Got my new phone from Apple and am happy with HK$2k in the pocket.

Those vendors on stools are a rip off.

I am aware you are happy with the instant $2K cash in hand.

Just did a search on the classified section on asiaxpat.com. You could have sold it for higher to individual buyers on this site cutting out the middleman such as Fortress, Broadway.

&&& thank you for the feedback.

Not sure are a 'ripoff'. They provide a easy convenient service, and I got the price I was happy with. The phone was far from perfect, even after a few hard resets & software upgrades - so wasn't going to sell to a private buyer. Also, if a private buyer would have paid me HK$500 more, it probably wouldnt of been worth the hassle of arranging to meet etc.

The 'stool guys' provided a good service, easy & hassle free. Good enough for me. I will be back to them in 2 years to sell my iphone 5 before I walk in and buy my new one.
