Hi, my daughter having severe constipation for last few months. Sometime goes four to five days no bowel motion.

She got dark circle under her eyes. She has this holding problem. We have tried many methods and diet. Including laxactive such as deflac etc. nothing works.

Sometime we force to give enema as we worry too much waste building up inside her and five days passed

she doesnot like enema.

Any medication for constipation for kids oral like drops to induce bowel motion.

Thank you

What is her diet like? It sounds like she needs to eat more

Fibre and try to get her to drink more fluids.

See this link for ideas: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/spotlight-high-fibre-diets

It is a shame because you're daughter is holding it in as it's probably very painful for her to push it out and you're giving her an enema is probably upsetting her more as she is being forced.

I hope it gets better soon - good luck!

Hi Blackpearl, it's really worrying isn't it?

I find it like this.

- The more you make a big fuss about it, the more they will think it's bad, so try to be chilled about it and not make a big deal. Children feed off your stress.

- have you tried onions and bananas or fruit juice?

- Check out websites to avoid food that will make your child constipated.

( my son was having nose bleed frequently and all that the doctors told me was, he'll have to burn his vein, but, one day, someone told me, watch his diet, it must happen after he ate meat, et voila!!)

- I hear that children get constipated psychologically as it feels like they are giving up a part of them, thus a lot of children hate doing "poo." Have you gone through a change in life for the child?

my 2 cents worth.

dear all thank you very much for all valuable advices and comments.

the core problem is she holds the stool. doesnot want to do it unless it hurts her stomatch also after enema she feel pain while passing out stoool. sincn the stool has stock up for many days it become dry and hard. it is not causing any discomfert to her but it worry us alot as it is not good if stool is inside for many days. we have tried prune juices as well as fresh juices. any medication which can help to relief the consitpation and urge her to pass stool.

Time to get a referral to a paediatric gastrointestinal doctor. Your daughter is caught in a constipation cycle = don't go because it hurts, which make it hurt more, has enema, which makes her want to go even less.

An over the counter medication will not help. A comprehensive assessment is needed. My neice has this problem and was diagnosed with mega bowel, and motility problems. Her solution was not a laxative.

Hello, I have a similar problem with my daughter who just turned 5. She never goes poo in the toilet, but only after she has gone to sleep. I am not sure she is actually constipated because sometimes this happens every night. The doctors I have talked with have no advice. Just say if she's not in pain, it must be okay. Basically she once had a very painful poo and is scared that it will hurt. We have tried so many different things, but no luck. I am just afraid that she will never get over this problem! I wondered if your doctor mentioned about by livea might be able to help?

My daughter also suffering with severe constipation, now she is 3 and half years old. She doesn't had problem with constipation since her birth(in July2011) until 11 months old. However at 11 months old, she went for a minor heart surgery, and after the surgery, she started getting constipation. At beginning, she used to have a bowel movement every 3 or 4 days, and from mid 2014, the frequency of her bowel movements prolonged to once every 7 or 8 days. We had visited different clinics, taken medication, carefully controlled her daily diet, and also tried many non-mainstream approaches, but unfortunately nothing worked. I feel so sad to see my daughter suffering from the constipation continuously, because of scary to poo, she now already have the 'holding behavior', and refuse to go for a poo until she cannot hold any more....
Is any one has successful experience of dealing with child constipation? could any one provide some advice to me regarding manage the child's constipation at home? really appreciate...
