Hey everyone!
New American expat here... I was looking at all the paperwork for getting an apartment in Hong Kong, and honestly I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle. I'm not sure if I'll stay past my one year contract, so I'm not entirely sure if I want to jump through hoops to secure an apartment. Besides that, I'm not sure I can pay all the upfront costs of 2 months security deposit, plus realtor fees, plus stamp fees.
That being said, how did everyone find the process?
Moreover, I have a bit of a question regarding serviced apartments. I rented one for my first month here in Hong Kong... it is quite small (I'm from New York, and have lived in Tokyo for quite some time... I still find it a little too tight). I was hoping to move out to Lamma Island. Do you know if there are any serviced apartments out in Lamma Island? As this would be ideal since I wouldn't have to sign any contracts etc.
Any general advice is also appreciated! :)

I checked both of those before posting. :(
Lamma Flats no response and it says all apartments are taken.
and the Asia Expat Serviced Apartment Request none of them were in Lamma

If you go to Lamma and walk along the waterfront there are often flats offered for rent for short periods - even weekends... you could try to negotiate a longer term deal

Also check out the Lamma forums - apart from the estate agents it's about the only place where you'll get to to date info on what's available: http://www.lamma.com.hk/forum-OK/viewforum.php?f=41

Yeah, I tried to join before posting on here... and I haven't heard back. You need to get your screen name approved, but I submitted a while ago only to hear nothing back. Maybe the mods are on break?
