HK vs UK prices

Okay, so I spent a year in HK a few years ago, and am now moving back on a more permanent basis.

I understand that, in general, prices in HK are far cheaper than UK counterparts.

However, as part of my relocation package I'm getting a large allocation of storage space for shipping. Problem is, being that I have only just graduated from University, I don't actually own enough possessions to warrant the size of the crate.

So I'm asking if there are things that I will need in HK (furniture, bedding, kitchen equipment, etc) that are cheaper in the UK?

If so, I can buy it here and have a less embarrassing experience when the moving team come over to pick up my stuff. As it stands, I currently have a games console and my coat to occupy 250 cubic feet.

I was in the same situation and there is actually not much I really miss here or cannot find at a reasonable price, except food: spices, olives, sundried tomatoes, hummus and other mediterranean delicacies are much cheaper in Europe...

I don't think sticking hummus on a 6 week voyage will be a good idea! Probably be a biohazard by the time it reaches the sunny shores of HK, and I don't fancy the idea of spending my first few months in HK facing trial for chemical warfare.

Although that has got me thinking about other foods that might be hard to find. IIRC, Fox's Biscuits are no where to be seen, could load the entire crate with Party Rings.

You could do a deal and take the shipping allowance in cash and bring your coat and PC console as your checked luggage.

I am relocating to HK on Wednesday and did not want to take all my furniture as not sure of space in flat. So 10 suitcases booked on my flight.

I usually bring back half a suitcase of Fox's biscuits (classics) which lasts me for about 6 months until the next trip! You cant buy them here but can order them online but I find it easier to stock up on trips.

Not much of an answer to your original question but what the hell!

Just out of interest what kind of job are you moving over for?
