Reply to (sandralovesgloeckner@gmail.com ) Sandra

this SANDRA picked 7 of my items and asked me send to her US address, before i sent out the parcel, i got a email from standard chartered bank and informed that the Telecom transfer has been approved. However, the $ only will transfer to my account once i provided the shipment receipt. The next day, when i sent out and provided the shipment receipt. I received the 2nd email from standard chartered bank and informed below ***..... i immediately stopped and returned my parcel

** We have Detected on Our System that the Transfer sent to you by Sandra Gloeckner is an International Transfer, We are Unable to Transfer/Activate the Payment to your account because the Amount sent to you ($1,700.00 HKD) is too Low for the System to Transfer it to your account as this is the first time the buyer is making an international transfer from his account, So we will like you to Contact the Buyer (Sandra Gloeckner) to make an additional payment of $3,300.00 HKD and once she has made the additional payment we will contact you and let you know through email and also send you a proof that she has made the additional payment.

You will need to transfer the amount of $2,500.00 HKD to our bank representatives through WESTERN UNION MONEY TRANSFER and scan us the receipt of Transfer, we will proceed with the remittance of ($1,700.00 HKD + $3,300.00 HKD) to your account immediately and you are advised not to send the copy of the western union money transfer to your buyer unless you are told to do so.***

Exactly the same happened to me. I happen to work for Standard Chartered so the first email from the bank made it clear to me it was a scam. I have not send anything to "Sandra".

PLEASE NOTE THAT STANDARD CHARTERED DOES NOT SEND MESSAGES LIKE THE ONES "SANDRA" SENDS AROUND.

I've been scammed!

She wouldn't send me a copy of her additional payment. So after receiving her second email confirming the account to return the overpaid monies I realised she's funding someone in Ukraine! I lost a bracelet!

I am adding a warning above the Send Message page for the classifieds ads ... before I send it off to be made so... anyone care to ad anything?

Beware of Scams
- Do not transact with anyone who is using Paypal, Westtern Union etc.
- Do not transact with anyone who is not physically located in Hong Kong
- Always test appliances and electronics before paying for them
- Always inspect goods before paying for them
- Some common scams are outlined here (emebed http://hongkong.asiaxpat.com/forums/website-problems-feedback/threads/c2331…)

That is fairly sad to group Paypal within your "beware" listings. PayPal is a legitimate billion dollar company owned by Ebay. I use it quite often to buy items online and offline. I receive payments for consulting work via PayPal as well. Simply verify the funds have cleared before sending anything and verify the user e-mail address.

I have had this discussion with Paypal who complained about our warning.

As I told them, every single time we have had someone transacting with Paypal in our classifieds fraud has been involved. Nobody buys used goods sight unseen from overseas paying this way. In fact I doubt anyone buys used goods from overseas regardless of the payment method.

My recollection was that I also told them that we would be more than happy to cooperate if they wanted to prosecute anyone using their service to commit fraud. Nothing happened...

The Paypal warning will be included.

I wasn't referring to purchases from overseas. I was referring to local purchases. Since Paypal provides a guarantee I have used them and have had funds returned if the item is not as specified. In terms of prosecution, only the courts can provide remedy in such as situation. It is not a corporation's responsibility to provide a solution or remedy under the law.

Understood -- but from our experience local purchasers do not use Paypal to purchase items on our site. They are generally meeting the vendor and handing them cash.

Buying anything sight unseen using any sort of money transfer is not something we encourage. When people get ripped off they are less likely to use our classifieds... therefore we will continue to discourage activities that are likely to expose our members to fraud

Another major problem we have seen is people meeting sellers at an MTR stop and buying electrical goods --- of course it is impossible to test them in the MTR --- and the scammers get away with the loot often leaving people with rubbish gear.... Our admin staff go to extensive efforts to find and remove ads of this nature from the site to attempt to protect our users.

Hope to have these warnings up by the end of business today.

Good job Ed.

I got ripped off twice, once by a girl who sold me a non functioning camera and another time by a very nice and educated looking girl who sold a faulty laptop, both at MTR,

but those two bad experience apart, i have many many good experiences as well with people selling stuff much better than expected.

anyway you cant rule out risks totally,

I think that 99.7566537% of the time people are honest and both parties end up happy.

I think these additional warnings will bring our success rate closer to 100%.

Our man in Lithuania is about to start work and this is the first task on his Mission. He will then be turning his attention to helping us finish off a few things on the new skin so we can launch that next week.

Home page and top bar all pages will go live in phase one.

Phase two involves fixing up the inner pages e.g. http://hanson.co.nz/clients/asiaxpat_classifieds

Really liking these Hanson guys --- they get it right the first time with the projects we send across!

I got her scammed too. Sigh. Went to post office and hopefully can stop the parcel.

I sent her a message saying that I will contact the police after I received the second email from 'the bank'. She even replied why I would do that??!!

I think this should wipe out the problem - live on all ads:

Thanks everyone for the post. Luckily I checked before going further.

Don't trust "prettylady愛愛" or Sandra Gloeckner

Simple rule, when there is a seller abnormally easy with price, quality, extra delivery charge etc...very likely this is a scam

I think it would hard for ed to keep track of these scammers as they change their names from time to time. i strongly suggest that to keep your transactions locally only. Hong kong is a small place and you can do meet ups at your convenience.

Emails such as i work in th middle of the sea, please send the item to this country as a gift for my daughter yadda yadda, are already a give away that these are scammers.

if you plan to sell overseas why not create an account in ebay rather than taking the risk of being scammed?

As for purchasing defective items, i do feel for them as well, not that i have experienced this (thankfully), but its a risk we need to take in buying items at a discounted price.

Cheers!

They tried to scam me too, but the Standard Chartered thing was obviously fake, so I told them money first then I ship. Total silence after that!

Sandra Gloeckner is a Scammer and its like a disease that cannot be cured. She almost had me ship my clothes to her address in the US. But little does she know, I am from CALIFORNIA and my father is a Sheriff. I have reported the address she gave me to the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Department.
