Hi,
I would like to know what kind of lifestyle can one expect in Hong Kong on a HKD 1,000,000 salary in Hong Kong?
I know taxes are low (15% if I'm not mistaken), so I assume take home pay would be HKD 850,000.
What would be a fair comparison in the UK?
In terms of renting somewhere near Central for a 1 bed apartment, what kind of prices can I expect?
Thanks

Rent is your biggest expense --- significantly higher than in the UK e.g. http://hongkong.asiaxpat.com/property/
You could just downsize to a smaller apartment
But beyond that I think your expenses in HK would be similar to say London or any other major city
1M income as a single person would allow you to live fairly large.

though there is 15% tax , there will usually be a bonus which will cover the tax .. so your annual salary will be 1million.. there is no tax holding at source.. even if not you should be able to save well in h..
for 20K per month you will get a decent 1 bed apartment in central.. 400-500 sqft net. so that 240K per annum.. another 10K per annum on an average of living cost.. thats 120K .. you are looking at ~500K for travel , savings etc..

Hello! If you are finding a temporary residence, but do not want to waste much on rent (just mentioned by somebody else, rent is the biggest expense in Hong Kong…too high!!) I stayed at a serviced apartments in Hong Kong by DASH Serviced Suites before. www.dashsuites.com. 5-Star Hong Kong Serviced Apartment flexible leasing terms with a very reasonable rent ($15K - $20K), good luck!
