Hi everyone,
I've just accepted a job working in HK.
As there will be a probation period of three months, I'd like to stay in temporary or short term accommodation such as Airbnb until I decide if HK is the place for me! And I can suss out the many different areas.
The nearest MTR to my office is Ngau Tau Kok. I'd ideally like to travel for no more than 45 minutes to get to work and stay somewhere reasonably priced. No more than £1500 a month.
As its my first experience living in HK I'd like to stay in an area which has a hustle and bustle about it! Bars, restaurants, cinema, gym, coffee shops, etc etc. Near some ex pats. I'm mid twenties female, living in east London for the past five years.
I understand I can't have it all and it may be wishful thinking to have all of the above...
But can anyone recommend any areas which I should be looking as atm I have no clue where to start?
And any other tips would be great!
Thanks :-)

I've always liked to live close to work to avoid the daily commute....
One idea would be to live in a serviced apartment for a couple of months before making a decision...

For your office location, you can consider : kwun tong, Tseung kwun O, quarry bay or north point, i suggest you downwload HK MTR app, you will see all the location nearby ngau tou kwok. for choosing a short term place, I suggest to look around on easyroommate.com for share flat, it is cheaper. any quetion, you can also pm me, from local gal.

That much money doesn't buy much... especially on overpriced HK Island
Rent something for 3-6 months, and spend your free time getting to know areas that fit your budget, and that you can get to easily by MTR from your job

I would suggest Prince Edward in Kowloon side. It's only 18 minutes from Prince Edward MTR station to Ngau Tau Kok MTR station. And it's also only 14 minutes to Central MTR station which is in HK island side.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your replies, I really appreciate your advice!
I've looked into the serviced apartments but they're all very expensive and usually require quite a chat deposit which I don't really have.
What is the prince Edward area like to live in?

do you interest with my place in yau tong...which got a mini bus straight to mk or jordan down stair

Maybe you can try AirBNB, and find someone who has a room to share.
You mentioned your activities - and from that, you would probably like Midlevels, or Happy valley best. But those are very expensive places to live. And they are not near where you will be working.
So you will have to make some trade-offs.
That is why I am suggesting you stay somewhere short term, and explore - to see what places will give you a compromise that will suit you
Use google maps to explore the different places that sound cheap enough. The good news is that Hong Kong is one of the safest cities on the planet. (But as a single woman you may want to be careful about where you go at night)
