Does anyone know or had experience in reactivating a HSBC account from the UK.
I have just been told that my daughter will need to come to The bank in person with HK ID
card to reactivate the account.
She is currently living in the UK and 7 months pregnant so flying to HK is out of the question.
She doesn't have internet banking here and her card allocated to her passbook is also
Inactive.
The bank also advised me that the account will become dormant as from next July and a $50 charge per month will be imposed.
Seems silly that this can't be done through a HSBC in the UK?

Hi Cass
having lived here for 26 years I can assure you that HSBC do not like to make things easy for us!
I too have an account in UK and HK as do my children who have now returned to HK, however I could not be trusted to represent them prior to their return!
If they will not let your daughter "prove" herself in UK then I am afraid that you will probably need to close the account and re apply when she gets back to HK (if that is her intention)
It is bureaucracy gone mad I am afraid.
Good luck

Dear Cassy27,
my brother received a letter from HSBC as well because he hasn't made any transactions in quite a while.
in order to keep the account in good standing you just need someone in HK who will make a deposit ($50 hkd will do).
you need to do this Before the date of expiry that HSBC mentions in their letter.
i did this for him and everything is fine for another year.
try to find someone in hk that is willing to do this for you.
