Should long term expats in Hong Kong learn Cantonese, Mandarin, or is it ok to learn neither?
The LangPats research project, funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO), is investigating why some expats pick up some Cantonese or Mandarin while others never do, even after years of living in Hong Kong.
Take part in the LangPats survey from Erasmus University Rotterdam and you could be in the draw to win a dinner for two!

The project is run by me, Dr Nathan Albury-Garces, a sociolinguist.
Our research will reveal which expats, with which characteristics, are more or less likely to learn Cantonese or Mandarin, and why.
The focus is primarily on Europeans, but everyone is welcome to take the survey and enter the prize draw.
The project has received ethics approval.
Thank you!
