A few questions on the area. To get there is it better to go via MTR Tung Chung or by ferry Mui Wo? Are there restaurants/bars/supermarkets locally or is a car a necessity? If driving, is it difficult (lots of traffic and narrow bendy roads)? Many thanks for any advice.

Ferry and bus/taxi is better (or at least more pleasant).
A few restaurants/bars and small shops nearby so you should be able to get most of what you are likely to need.
You can't drive there unless you have a special permit (the road over from Tung Chung is restricted access) but public transport is not bad other than at holiday peak periods.

There is a well known South African restaurant at Lower Cheung Sha Beach.

If you want to call a cab from either direction, the number is 29841328 and you'll pay a $5- surcharge for call out. You could eat in Mui Wo before you get there, or past Cheung Sha is Tong Fuk and the Gallery restaurant (only open weekends or weekday evenings). The Stoep is shut on Mondays.

Thanks for all your advice. Will be travelling from HK Island so ferry it is. We will be staying for a couple of nights and have the use of a car/van with permit to drive on South Lantau Road and Tai O Road but I am not a very confident driver so thought maybe better off using public transport... Anyone know roughly how long the drive takes from Mui Wo to Cheungsha?
