Is it okay to make your baby's formula bottle with boiled bottled water..i.e Bonaqua or distilled water. I have been making my baby's with this water and read somewhere not to. Does anyone know any more info?

Boiled tap water is fine. Mineral water can be dangerous for babies and I think that Evian and Volvic are the only ones that have a low enough mineral content to be considered safe.
The only concern I have with tap water in HK is not the tap water but the state of the pipes in the buildings - if you live in an old building with old outdated piping you may want to use bottled water.

I personally boil tap water.......bottled water is basically the same- distilled water lacks everything- fluorid etc.....don't give distilled water.....................I have the opinion that boiled tap water here is just fine.........and my baby has never ever been sick at all...............she is active and very healthy! I think it's personal choice- if you don't feel comfortable with tap water than use i.e. VOLVIC........it says on the bottle that it is suitable for babies............my baby didn't like volvic at all........so good luck- just stay away from distilled water.........I only use that for ironing my clothes!

I always used boiled tap water to make formula here and in the UK. And all our family drink the cheapo distilled water...without boiling.

I think if you start worrying even about distilled water and start boiling this then there is nothing you can eat or drink without worry............as I mentioned I boil tap water for the baby and even the doc confirmed it was ok.....you have the give the kids some chance to build up some resistance as well..............even in the hospitals they use boiled tap water?!!!

One point about boiling tap water. If you're using the kettle, you need to empty the kettle totally, to get rid of water that may have already been boiled several times, as metal concentrations increase with each boiling.

I just read an article in the daily mail that research in UK believe that chlorine and its by products in tap water may cause still born deaths, miscarriage and birth defects. This is In UK but I guess they use chlorine to sterilise the water in Hong Kong too. So maybe distilled water is the best option.

I used boiled distilled water for formula when baby first started formula
after I'd stopped breastfeeding. Then I started introducing boiled tap water
as midwife had advised that going distilled all the way was too sterile for
baby. It was a gradual transition. I have also been advised to put a water
filter on my tap and boiling the filtered water.

When I moved here four years ago, I had the same questions. So I had my tap water tested and analyzed. I found that water straight from the tap had unacceptable levels of lead and water that I boiled and filtered had unacceptable levels of arsenic (which can be concentrated after boiling). After consulting with my doctor, I began using Volvic for my toddler son and our family, which we buy in bulk and use to this day. Why wonder? Just get some answers to your own specific situation.
