I have heard of it happening a couple of times but never planned, always an unexpected quick birth. I also heard it was illegal here when I thought about it for one of mine.

I am not sure of it being illegal - rather very difficult.
There was a woman who did it several years ago and she had her midwife fly in from Australia to do the delivery for her.
I think it is a case of not having back up by an obstetrician or hospital and most home birth accredited midwives require this in case they need to transfer intrapartum. There is also a medico/legal responsibiility that the midwife takes on which is difficult for insurance purpose if she is not backed. You would need to find a midwife prepared to assist you without any insurance cover, or you could opt for an unassisted birth at home.
I am not sure if any midwives in Hong Kong are accredited for delivering babies at home , however we can all assist during the process of labour at home.
I do remember Everdawn offering a home birth service in an old advertisment. Give them a call and Mrs. Chee may give you more information.
I think it is also rather difficult for the paper work process once the baby has arrived.
I found no joy in my dream of homebirthing here in Hong Kong, I ended up going home to Australia for my home birth.
Good luck with what ever you choose. I wish I could help you more. midwifeinhk@hotmail.com

My friend had this experience - baby came with very little warning so it was the shower curtain on the bed. Fire, police and ambulance all in attendance! It's illegal because it's an II thing rather than an anti-birth process bias.
