Implanon in Hong Kong?

ORIGINAL POST

Implanon is a birth control implant that is ***great*** - I've had it for 6 years now (2 lots of implants) and now I need a new one put in. Rather than schedule this mini-surgery whilst on a whistlestop break in the UK next month, does anyone know of a private practice in Hong Kong that can do this? It isn't available at Government family planning places. The mini-pill isn't even widely available in Hong Kong, never mind this faily new advancement!!

Thanks in advance

I too have implanon (and have had it 5 years)

When mine needed replacing I was told it was not available in HK.... although this was a little while ago now. I had mine replaced in the UK. I spoke to an O/G friend of mine and she said she would insert it in HK if I got hold of one in the UK (can get a private prescription from any dr for this.... you have to pay for the cost of the device rather than the standard UK prescription charge) My concerns about this were that you have to be trained to fit implanon and there have been a few cases of implanon failure reported in the press which were due to incorrect insertion rather than implant failure.

My information is a little out of date so it might now be available here. Let us know if you find it

Hi all. Implanon IS a terrific contraceptive alternative. Go here:

Organon makes Implanon. Click on the world map icon, click over Asia Pacific, choose Hong Kong from the pull-down menu, and you get this:

Hong Kong

Give them a call and inquire about Implanon. There is every chance it is now available in HK...because it is now available in the Philippines. I called the Manila number given and the doctor who answered gave me the complete list of doctors certified to provide, insert, and remove Implanon in the Philippines.

If all else fails for you ladies in HK, it is worth the flight to Singapore or Manila to acquire Implanon - better than having to go all the way back to the UK. :-) Could be a fun trip too - swing by Boracay beach on your way back.

If anyone wants contact info on Manila doctors, send me an Asiaxpat email.

P.S. In addition to consulting your ob/gyn, do your homework. A simple search of "Implanon study" on Yahoo or Google will yield tons of reading material to help you make an informed decision.

i had an implant put in about 6 months and i think its great. no periods!!

i heard that it can thin your bones and am a bit worried as since living in china i haven't been drinking that much milk cus its rank. i try to eat plenty of yogurts.

can any women who have had the implant in for a long time tell me if it had any effect on their bones. or anything else.

5star - not at all. you can't feel it once it's in. the doctor uses a local anaesthetic before insertion. it takes only a few minutes to insert, for three years of contraception.

Hi, I have also had the implanon for 6 years with no complaints. Totally happy but need to have it taken out here in HK. Does anyone know a clinic where I can have it removed? My GP told me to go to the hospital but that seems excessive for such a small procedure.

Any help would be so appreciated.

you might be able to get it done at the larger clinics of Quality Healthcare such as the one in Princes Building or at Dr. Vio and Partners in the World Trade building in Central. I have seen that both of these clinics have "proceedure" rooms where they do minor surgical proceedures.

Hey there,

Sorry to write on an hold thread but I cannot find any info anywhere. Maybe someone could help me? I have had an implant for the past 3 years and I need to get it replaced now. Apparently now it should be okay to have the procedure done in Hong Kong, but not in Mainland China.

Has anyone had an implant replaced in Hong Kong?

Thanks so much,

Best,

Rebecca
