My daughter has been going to Dance A Lili in Causeway Bay for 2 years. The place is getting to be very very commercial. I need to switch her to a different school. Any recommendations?

Megan, my daughter didn't like her at all in the beginning. But I agree with you that I like Miss Iyla's style. So my daughter stayed with her and she is ok now. The reason I am getting out is that the school is getting too crowded and they are not paying any attention to the needs of individual student. I showed up there yesterday, the 1st day of my daughter in Primary which is supposed to be for 6-8 year olds according to their book. But the class was filled with 5 year olds. My daughter just happens to be a very tall 6 yr old. I then asked the principle to put her in the next class. Long story, I was very disappointed and so were many other parents. What is the point of having a rule when you are not following it.

My daughter goes to Carol Bateman School of Ballet on Garden Road and loves it. The place has high ceiling, very colonial, and there is a pianist playing the piano too. You can go for trial lesson.

Megan, I don't have any preferance of teachers. Thought they are all about the same. As I am doing some research now about other schools, I found that Dance A Lili is at least $300 more a month compared with others and they are increasingly focused on making money instead of really teaching. I have not found any other school that put 5 yr olds into primary. For the other schools, if they don't have enough children for a certain class, they simply won't have one instead of lumping a bunch into one which is what is happening at Dance A Lili

Megan, I suggest you look elsewhere even though you just started. The other problem is that the admin people at Dance A Lili do not really know what they are doing in addition to their inability to communicate in English.

Another one to try is Lynne Ballet School in Universal Trade Ctr, Central. My daughter used to go to Jean M WOng but never really looked forward to it, she now attends Lynne's classes and absolutely loves them. She's a marvellous teacher who teaches them ballet thru make believe (where's your fairy box, what's in it, ok let's put that lipstick on and pretend we're all fairies) you get the idea. Just before easter each year they out on a show and whilst the lessons leading up to them are a bit frought, the kids love it. They get to wear and keep their outfit and hv their makeup and hair done. And i thinks it's cheaper than Jean M Wong. Try it.

Megan, I spoke to all the schools mentioned in this threat this past week and I have to say that the admin staff at all these schools speak good English and know what they are talking about and have good attitudes. The man you menionted at Dance A lili is actually a piano person and only recently started helping out at the front desk. Dance A Lili is the most expensive one by far and the most commercial. (of course they all are to a certain extent). I wish I switched a lot ealier. I wouldn't be surprised if more people are lving that place. I am going to try the other places. Might end up at Carol Bateman as it is more convenient for me location wise and time wise.
