We are thinking of sending our children to the AIS and would love to hear from anyone who has experience with this school. The threads on the school in this frum all seem quite old. Feel free to PM me if you'd prefer - any information is welcomed. Thanks!

i'm also interested in AIS - tossing between this and ESF. i still have a year to think about it. i did a school tour, and it's impressive. great campus. and being aussie ourselves, i think a great place for our kids. we will eventually be back in oz, and the AIS follow the nsw curriculum plus the terms/holiday schedules. the only problem i see (for us) is that it is far (we live in midlevels) and it's a much bigger school than what the esf school is offering (the esf is smaller).
i've heard good things about the school too from other people...

I send my daugher to AIS and she has been going there for two years now. My youngest is starting next year. We absolutely love it! The teachers are great, the school facilities are really good and it's a great school community. For the most part everyone is really friendly. I am also a teacher (at another school) and I really like the teaching approach, the curriculum whilst Australian is very good and there is a good language program. They learn Mandarin every day for 40 minutes as opposesd to a few times a week at the ESF schools. (I may be wrong about that but it's what Ive heard) There is also a strong sporting culture as well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Australian school, particularly over the ESF schools.
Turquoiseblue, there are school buses that pick up kids from the midlevels and as we are Aussie to we find that it really instills a sense of pride in the kids for being Aussie. They sing the national anthem at assemblies and have a great school song that the kids love too!

My advice to you is look at both sets of schools to see which one would suit your child best. Ask questions to parents who have children in the school is the staff turnover high? If so you may want to think twice about it. ESF schools have a lower turnover of staff. All ESF Primary schools have 40 minutes of Mandarin each day and have very good sporting programmes. Some ESF schools are smaller than others so well worth looking at all of them especially if you require a smaller school. Location is definately a factor it maybe more suitable to find a school near to where you live as it can be quite tiring for a little one to go on a long bus journey after a long day at school. Good luck in your search.

I have a lot of friends with kids at AIS, and all of them love it for primary school kids. However most of them will be either changing schools, or sending their kids to boarding school for secondary, as none of them feel the secondary section is good enough.

Thanks for your replies. Interesting points. I had heard that there was high staff turnover at AIS a few years ago, but am unaware of the position now. I will have to investigate further. cd - from other threads, I believe you live in CWB/SK? Would you know how long the commute to AIS from CWB is?

Interesting old thread, am looking to move from Sydney to HK at the end of the year with a 7 yr old and 5 yr old. How is the school now? Staff turnover resolved? It an obvious choice for us.
