Yes, sadly very true.
Go to Fortress or any department store and ORDER one - yes, they are all sold out and there's about a one month's wait.
They will advise on what size you will need for your rooms. For an average sized apartment you usually need two.
Good quality ones are the ONLY ones worth buying - others chug away noisily all day and soak up next to nothing (however, I can't remember the brand names - Fortress will have brochures for you to peruse). Expect to pay around $3K eaach for good ones. Second-hand is fine so long as they are good quality brands. For new ones the waiting time is around one month - I wouldn't muck around as in one month the water will be dripping down the walls (don't think I'm kidding).

You might want to try the trading post on this site, expats leave at all times of the year and you might get lucky, but you will almost certainly need one or even two unless like FOTH had, you have excellent ventilation, even then clothes kept in drawer units/wardrobes etc tend to develop musty smells and even a form of mould. Talk to your neighbours and get their advice as they will experience of the local extremity of the problem.

I have just got my fourth dehumidifier as no one told me about the mould problem here I found out the hard way. I bought a dehumidifier from fortress and I then bought 1 second hand and 2 from the park n shops. The ones I bought from Park n shop are only 10 litres but were one third of the price. I dont know how they will go but 6 weeks on and so far ok. You need the wardrobe dehumidifiers I paid about 6.00 for each one at park n shop but if you look around you can get 2 or three for 10.00

I have a 3 bedroom apartment 2300 ft. I am told that this is very big and I will need 3-4.
