I have been looking for an apartment to rent and today looked with a different agent. He showed me a place I had already seen with another agent the previous day and was able to negotiate a great discount for me on the rent. I signed and transferred the deposit earlier. Now the original agent has contacted me to say she knows I have rented the apartment and wants a fee too!!!
No one has explained this to me and its over £700 that I really can't afford. Any advice please?

I was also told this by an agent when I signed the form to say he had shown me the apartment. I also read the form to be sure it was correct.

did the first agent make you sign a EEA Form 6? If not, tell him to f**k off

We certainly did not sign any forms and neither of the agents told us about this! As if renting wasn't expensive enough here...

indeed. if you havent sign anything with the first agent, you are fine. if he still presses you, you can report him to the real estate agencies asscotiation (or whatever it's called)

I've often wondered about this. We do know about the 'rule', but in all the years we have lived here, and all the apartments we have viewed, we have never been asked by any agent to sign any forms. So how do people legally stand in this situation? It seems outrageous that one agent can show you a property, insisting on one price for rental, then a different agent negotiates a better rental price for you ... why the hell should the 1st agent, who hasn't done such a good job of negotiating you a good deal, get any fees?! ... I know, this in HK and it's all about money (greed!) ...
