Hello all
I just received my contract from hkis. Because I am an oversea hire I do not get a housing allowance, but rather get housing on campus. My questions are about the accomodations.
I am single so I'm wondering if the flats for singles are one bedroom or studios. Is the housing like other in HK? How is the privacy there? I would appreciate any information by previous or present teachers. Or if you just happen to know anything about this.
Your forums have answered a lot of questions about life in HK and I really appreciate them. Hopefully you can answer some of my questions too.
Thank you!!!

The staff housing is right next to the school and is apparently quite nice. I would suggest that you contact the school and ask for an email address from a current teacher who can act as a mentor. They could probably email a picture of thier accomodations.

Definitely ask for a contact at the school and then they can tell you exactly what they think you should bring with you - or not as the case may be.

I'm an HKIS graduate. There is staff housing next to the high school campus in a beautiful area on the south side of the island. I'm pretty sure there's still staff housing next to the primary school in Repulse Bay, which is a more built up area, but still residential and very nice. Knowing HKIS, I doubt very much that there are any studio flats, and although I can't say for sure, I think you'll have more than one bedroom. Your general surroundings at either campus are much better, certainly in a much more peaceful environment, than that of most housing in the territory. You may not be that keen on living right next to your workplace, but I don't think you'll need to worry about privacy at all. If you go to the HKIS website and choose Virtual Tour, there are quite a number of good pictures there, which will give you an idea of what to expect.

As an overseas hire you are getting a much better deal than a local hire...
