Transformers - Step-down - 120v

Should I buy a transformer before I relocate to HK or is there a place to buy there. I'm looking for one that has at least 4 power jacks for 120v computer equipment. It seems the Internet is not much of a resource for shopping/researching in HK!! I could also use 220v bricks for each device but that may be difficult to accomplish as some of my equipment is a few years old. Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have bought many step-down transformers over the years and never seen more than one output - into which I have always plugged a locally purchased multi-plug strip (usually have to change the plug on the multi-plug strip).

The bigger issue is to make sure you have a transformer that is heavy duty enough for what you want to power.

I have no idea what you will find in Hong Kong but I imagine you should get multiple replies from there shortly.

Thanks! I was informed that I should get a transformer rated 50% above the combined power consumtion of the devices I'm powering. I had visited Fortress and other stores and did not see anything like this. Looks like I'll need to order here and ship to HK.

Radiodoc - will take your advice - as much as I like the smell of ozone in the morning :-)

It seems to me that the transformers we have used were generally rated at 1000 watts or so, and I never had a problem with anything that I wanted to run. They are heavy though! Real heavy!

Good call Vertio - duh!

Most PCs are switchable - however printers, external modems, scanners, etc., in the US are still 110/120 only - or at least the ones I have seen.

Vertio,

The computer equipment I will be shipping uses 110v "bricks" that are not switchable.

Radiodoc - good advice on checking out the used equipment sales on the boards. I may do that. I really need to be up and running as soon as a splash down and won't have much time for coordinating a used equipment purchase. Still, worth consideration. Thanks.

Another option is to take my bricks to an electronic shop (there's a good one in Kowloon in East TST - can't remember the name). They claim they will be able to find a 240v match.

Thanks also for the political commentary. Interesting perspective.
