The YMCA is organising a seminar on the Montessori course [offered by North American Montessori Centre] this weekend.
I am keen to pursue this course. Has anyone enrolled/graduated from this distance learning programme? What are your feedback?
Any Montessori Teachers out there with a helpful insight? Or parents with kids in Montessori schools?
Thank you for your feedback!

I am a trained Montessori teacher and did it long-distance through a London college. The YMCA offer a short comprehensive course. The one I did was a much longer one. I was able to take up to 2 years to do the course although I know one woman on my course who did the whole lot in 2 months but she did it very intensively indeed!!! The one I did required you to do a 2 week workshop and exam afterwards. I think the one in the YMCA requires you to do a few assignments and I think they will show you the materials used.
The Montessori system is a fantastic system which is child centred and worth doing. There are several Montessori schools in HK where you can work after you have passed your course. I think the YMCA should be recognised in these places. I think the help you get should be good and you can do the assignments according to your time-frame.

I am not sure whether you are talking about the course in HK or London. For details about the HK one contact Moira of the YWCA (education section). For the London one you need a few GCSEs or equivalent and be at least 17 years old. The cost of the course overall came to about GBP1,000 in total. The first GBP500 is payable before starting the course as it covers the cost of sending you the material (4 manuals which are very thick and 2 textbooks). The rest of the money is for the workshop and the exam which you will pay when you decide to do the workshop and exam. If you wish to contact London their website is www.modernmontessori-intl.com The Singapore site (which has more information about their courses) is www.modern-montessori.com I know that they are accredited but can't remember by whom. They are authorised to hold their own training courses as opposed to just having a school. If you do the workshops in London or Singapore you can also put your child (under 6) in their nursery while you study. The nursery in London is downstairs and you study upstairs. There is a garden attached to the centre. In Singapore the school is a few minutes away from the centre. I think that if you do this course you will have to do your training afterwards. I hope this is all helpful to you.
