There seem to be so many different cards on offer. Any suggestions on what is the best card(s)?

I just want to use it as a charge card. Asiamiles are useful but not the only factor. What are fees and transaction charges? Particularly for overseas transactions?

I usually go for cards which waive annual fees and give you nice freebies ie. asiamiles.

Yes me too. All of my cards which I m holding are annual fees waived. A.E. didnt agree to that so I dont use it. I think waiving of annual fee is a good point to consider.

Do HK credit card companies offer new members an interest-free period, as they do in the UK?

do you mean interest free for overdue payments? Very unlikely, as that is the way of earning a living and that they charge both the finance charge and late charge.

But presumably they don't charge interest if you make your payments on time?

Of course not, if you make your payments on time.

i got them to halve the fee and give me 3000 miles at renewal time. They told me they would have given me the gold one for free.

I'll check out Citibank CX Platinum and see if they'll waive the fee.

Thanks for all the responses.

Citi CX platinum will waive the fees by half if you are a Citigold customer. Despite heavy usage, that was the best they could do for us.

Why is tax such a big issue? Can you pay tax direct via a transfer on the internet? Or by cheque? Why do you need to pay via credit card?

JD, if you pay using HSBC card, you get HSBC points which can be converted to Asiamiles. It's a big deal if the tax payment is big!

Miss P, the easier way to pay tax using your HSBC credit card is to deposit the tax amount into your credit card account first. That way, you don't need to get a temporary increase in limit. When you bank in the check, make sure you write your credit card number at the back of the check so that they will deposit it into your credit card account, and not your usual bank account.
