My doctor told me to stay away from S26. Apparently it is still made from animal fat and not vegetabe fat like the other formula's. The S26 caused so many problems with my first baby that she was constipated really badly. That was when the doctor said to get her off S26 straight away. I noticed a difference in her with in 4 hours she was not in so much pain. She had terrible pain in the tummy due to the formula. I then put her on Karicare but I dont think you can get it over here. Everybody I spoke to after the doctors said to change formula has had the same problems.

I suggest you ask your doctor or nurse what the difference is, if any.

Hi all....downloaded this info from a medical website with info on infant formulas. Hope it helps with the fat content issue. Cheers.

Fat:

Fat is an essential part of any milk formula. It provides 50% of the daily energy requirements and it is necessary for the infant to acquire fat stores to insulate and cushion their developing body.

Fats also carry essential fatty acids and fat soluble vitamins along with providing a full and satisfying feeling in the infant's stomach. Formulas usually contain a combination of vegetable and animal fats to give a ratio of unsaturated to saturated fats similar to breast milk.

Greater saturated fat content (which may be animal or vegetable sourced) may reduce calcium absorption. Breast milk contains 44% saturated fats, 17.1% polyunsaturated fat, and 38.9% monounsaturated fat.

If you are changing formulas it is best to keep to a similar combination of fats as your previous formula to prevent digestive problems.

Long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPs) are recent additions to many formulas. Different types of LCPs are Omega 6, Omega 3, AA, and DHA. These are essential for good vision and brain development. LCPs are particularly beneficial in the first three months of life, after this the digestive system can manufacture its own. Their sources are usually fish oil or refined micro algae. The latter may be more digestible for some infants.

Taurine and carnitine are amino acids added to formulas to improve fat digestion.

The energy content among majority of infant formulas are quite similar, usually around 66-67kcal per 100ml.

The differences between Nan & S26 are as follows:

fat, carbohydrate, iron (per 100ml)

Nan: 3.4g, 7.6g, 0.8mg

S26: 3.6g, 7.2g, 1.2mg

S26 has higher fat and iron content than NAN.

Hope you find the information useful.
