Martial Arts

Hu I am looking for any form of Martial Arts for my boys aged 4and a half and six in Tung Chung Area.

Hi Ray, if you are interested to send your boys for Karate class at The HK University in Pokfulam on Sat. afternoon commencing September, let me know. A lot of the good clubs are situated in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon area... so it's quite restrictive to just look in Tung Chung. I understand the distance will be a problem.


In any case, I think it would be best to take your kids to a few martial arts classes to see what they enjoy. There are different types of martial arts around but the main ones will be Japanese (Karate, Judo, Jujitsu), and Chinese (Wushu, Wing Chun, Kung Fu)...


Even for Karate there are different styles and levels of contact...


The main thing is the club and what kind of instructor the club has. His/her experience with teaching children, the number of children in the class, the number of classes per week, the cost involved, the teaching technique, does the children enjoy the training and like the class and instructor, do your kids like the grappling arts or the standup better, the language of instruction etc.


Maybe you want a club that also teaches adults so that you can also train with your kids?


There are lots of factors to take into account, so it's wise to take the kids to as many clubs as possible (many offer 1st lesson free so that you can try it out). You never know, it may turn out to be a life long hobby...
