Ok GisaJob, this is from observation on the streets and asking a few people as I've never had a driving lesson in HK. Yes I do see a lot of teachers talking on their mobiles when they are teaching, plus there's this incessant need for them to pull on your steering wheel and make you go only 10 mph. I think it's mainly the older teachers who think you're going to crash their car. You may have enjoy your lessons if you can find a younger instructor, at least not so old fashioned.
Good luck for your test on August 2nd (btw did you have to take a theory test as well?)

Hum that sucks, how about changing schools altogether?
Found these in the A-Z, maybe give them a call?

I had driving lessons in HK.
I took a 3 hour 'refresher' course to help me be more confident on the roads here. I lived here for years before getting a car, and when I got one I realised just how narrow the streets are and how small the parking garages are!
The instructor I used was from the board at the motor vehicle dept in Admiralty. They list all the certified instructors, and I called the ones that had 'E' after their name (they teach in English).
I chose the one that sounded nice on the phone and actually had the time available I wanted.
The guy I used was called Albert or something like that (it was a few years ago), he was mid 40's, had a Ford Focus, and was very patient. Our lesson was in Kowloon Tong and Mongkok.
He never shouted, scolded me or had his phone on.
My only complaint was that he had me doing 3 point turns, but once I explained I had been driving for 15 years, and really knew that already he was fine and we just practiced on the street and parking in tight spots (the two things I wanted to practice).
Where did you get this horrible instructor from? Was he on the board at the MV Dept? Was he advertised somewhere?
You should report him to the Motor Vehicle Dept, what you described is not proper, and I am sure they would want to know.
Good luck, and don't worry about your test - if you pass great, and if you fail the first time that puts you in the majority :)
Hope that helps you.

I learned at the HK School of Motoring (details on this site)about 3-4 years ago. The teachers never took calls, shouted or scolded. You could book whatever teacher you wanted, so I tried to keep to the 2 or 3 I found fine, but obviously it would depend on their availability. The general standard was acceptable. Good luck with your test!
