Hello we have just moved to HK from London and we love it but we miss the fresh milk - Can you get it delivered here? What brands would you recommend from the supermarket? Is it all reconstituted or is some direct from the cow? Many thanks
Dear Altaf,
The only company I know that delivers is Farm Milk (2832 9218). The supermarkets have local fresh milk, Australian fresh milk and some horrid reconstituted skimmed milk "drinks". The only way I know to get fresh pasteurised skimmed or semi-skimmed milk is from Farm Milk -- but the taste of milk varies so much from place to place, so if you drink full cream milk you should taste all the brands to see which one you prefer.
altaf,
Pura milk (in larger Wellcomes) is at least produced from whole milk and packed in Australia - though it is still homogenised.
If I understand correctly, the homogenisation process is not a chemical one, but simply involves giving milk a good beating so that the creamy and watery parts blend evenly together: then they don't separate into two layers as they visibly did in milk bottles years ago.
Most of the other brands here (even those with bucolic names) are reconstituted from dried milk powder locally - presumably with local water.
mamadavid,
Do you know which country Farm Milk gets their milk from?
Dear Burgundy,
I don't know which country the milk is from. On their low fat milk cartons, they say: Farm Milk low fat milk is procesed by removing approximately 60% fat from our pure fresh milk. Based on the "our", I assumed they had their own cows (New Territories, Lantau, China?). Perhaps I am naive! I wouldn't say their skimmed and semi-skimmed milk (pasteurised and homogenised) would win any awards, but it tastes much better than the reconstituted "milk drinks" they sell in the supermarkets.

I know that Trappist Dairy milk had a delivery service and their milk was amazing!
Give them a call: Tel: (852) 2471 9861
I agree -- Trappist Dairy milk is superb. But I think they only do full cream.

....though of course Trappist Dairy milk no longer comes from the serene Trappist Monastery in Lantau....
