hi folks, i'm looking to get my british passport renewed. consulate has no manned phoneline to answer general queries, and their website offers no info on renewal process. can anyone advise on process and roughly how long it takes from application submission til receipt of new passport? thanks v much!

take a visit to the consulate to pick up for the form and I believe they have all that info on display.

The renewal process has changed since last month. Passports now have to come from the UK, so the British Consulate in HK will send your renewal application to the UK, which they say should take around 4 weeks (if your lucky!). I printed and sent off the application form from the following website about a month ago and it was renewed approx 2 weeks later.

I travel in and out of Hong Kong every two weeks on average. Consequently my 10 years passport has filled up quite rapidly. How do I manage to travel if I have to submit my current passport as part of the renewal process? I cannot even make any plans to travel if I don't know when my new passport will be received. Is it feasible to apply for and receive a new passport in the UK within a week if I applied when on holiday over there for a week or so?

Haven't tried it myself but you can get your passport renewed within a day in London and some other cities. See link below:

Cost also seems to be less than the regular service in HK...!
