Cash on delivery, can it be trusted?

I am looking to buy a TV, but the big shops like Fortress and Broadway are immensely expensive. After looking around a bit on the internet at price comparison sites I found quite a few shops with a lot lower price (more than 30% less).

However, even if I can order online, they all do "cash on delivery" only. Can I trust it? I am a bit mistrustful of handing over a wad of cash and have it "disappear" without a trace. At least if you pay by CC or EPS at least you have a counter account.

What is the general concensus on this?

Back in Europe I would never have paid for anything "big" with cash. You just wouldn't trust it. That's why I'm undecided on doing it here in HK. But yes, I do get the item delivered and only then do I pay.
