I've never understood why anyone would want to drink alcohol-free beer!!
Sorry but am genuinely puzzled!

FYI, Olivers also sells the Ariel label, a non-alcoholic wine. Currently have Brut Cuvee, Cabernet Sav, and Chardonnay. Out of the Merlot which quite pleasant chilled. Have served the Brut Cuvee to Chinese friends, all of whom don't want to drink, and they enjoyed it. Quite sweet though.
The company that imports Ariel in to HK mentions on its website it will be bringing Clausthaler alcohol free beer to Hong Kong, so it might worth contacting them to see when.
Kimmy, alcohol is a poison and some people cannot tolerate this poison as well as others.
Loletta, don't know about non-alcoholic beer, but non-alcoholic wines generally have two-thirds fewer calories than ordinary wine.

OK thanks guys. Alsohol free beer is very common in Europe (Buckler, Kronenbourg Malt). It's for people who have to drive (yes, we are far behind with drink-driving in HK, but it will get tougher..). It is for people who want to enjoy the taste of beer without the alcohol. And for those who simply want to cut down for health reasons.

Hey, macrobioot, you read to much "Youp van 't Hek"

Yes I am - somehow.
I regularly enjoy the taste of a beer at home but due to a strict diet I prefer to skip the alcoholic one.
By the way: any fat free mayonnaise?

If you mean Orange Tree, no, I am not. I am not at all involved in the dutch community here. Not stingy enough. I come across many here and think we really deserve our reputation.

I'm with Witley. Can't drink alcohol but like a glass of wine with a special meal. Can't drink coffee, don't like tea, want to avoid sugary and/or carbonated drinks. Water, although necessary for survival, is boring to drink all the time. I see nothing wrong with having a de-alcoholised beverage. I do have problem with people telling me (as some have) that I shouldn't bother drinking the stuff. But then I find some of these people can't imagine going through a day without alcohol - then I realise they are the ones with the problem, not me.
I have a friend whose 5-year-old son is allergic to chocolate, which of course he loves. She gives him carob instead although it doesn't quite taste like chocolate. Following the "reasoning" here, I'm sorry that some posters might think she is wrong to do this, but I don't think she is a hypocrite to do this.

Exactly Witley, that's it. As I avoid suger there is not much choice. Diet-coke, mineral water. To sit with my family and have a nice glass of beer with a nice foamhead gives me really the feeling of having a good time, alcohol or not. A nice wine glass with a grape juice, a nice fruit- or even vegetable-juice c*cktail well presented: it's all better than a glass of water. I never drank a beer from a bottle and I never will. A plastic cup with wine? No thanks. Not even a dutchman...

then, macro, I suggest you never travel to a country with the kind of diseases that leave you too sick to ever drink alcohol again. Of course perhaps you could then appreciate how some of us would love to drink a "real" Merlot. ;-)
FYI, why drink natural fruit juice? As a foodie, surely you would not alter real fruit into something that is worse for you... ;-) again
