Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much it costs to join private club(AMC,HKFC,HKFC,LRC, etc), also a monthly charge? We have 2 young children, and are desperate to have a place to go on the weekend, but we are on our own(non corporate), so cost concious. Any input would be appreciated!

Football club for playing members (any sport, men or women teams) costs 20,000 up front in 2 instalments 6 months apart plus monthly membership fee of 2,400 including 1,200 that you have to spend in F&B. Commitment of 4 years.
Depending where you live there is also the Repulse Bay Club in Repulse Bay, much more low-key; they have a weekly membership for non-residents of 1,200 and you need to pay 5,000 upfront that they give you back at the end. Good pool, pretty good gym and quite a lot of activities for children, but no access in the w-e and no team sport/pub.

I recently got a flyer in my mailbox from the American club in Tai Tam. Unfortunately I threw it away, but they seemed to be offering quite a cheap membership deal -- don't remember if there were week end restrictions, but you might want to phone them.

you can rent memberships sometimes, and also some clubs do temporary ones - I know the FC and LRC do.
Other alternative is the Yacht club which do a 2 yr m'ship (have to have some interest in sailing).
Best way by far though is to play a sport at the FC or the CC.

Kcc in Jordan is $80,000 for a full membership, plus $1,000 a month subs. Parking $1,500 a year. sporting membership currently $3,000 a year for 3 years plus subs, after 3 years you have to become a full member (at the price it was when you first joined, if it goes up in the meantime) or leave. The $9,000 you would already have paid comes off that. The USRC, also in Jordan is $40,000 for a full membership plus $1,200 a month subs. But they do a F& B membership which is $20,000, with a minimum of $2,000 a month for I think 2 years on your food and beverage bill, which is very easy to do once you have kids and spend weekends sitting by the pool.

HKCC costs $70,000 to join with monthly fee of HK$1200. Waiting time to join is 18-24 months though.

Thank you so much for your reply. Does anyone know how much it cost to join AMC together with monthly fee, also if we were to lease/month?

I am amazed at how expensive these clubs are - the 'joining' fee and the monthly subs (even if you don't use the club for the month) - incredible. Have been here 11 years - never joined a 'club' because we heard it was very expensive - but no idea on how expensive! Now I know we were given the right information.

Football club is $20k to join (in 2 payments) and $1200 a month. BUT you need to represent the club in one of the designated sports (i think they are Hockey, Football, Rugby, Netball, Lawn bowls and maybe squash? - its on their website). It is by far the best way to join one of the clubs and it keeps you fit too (except the bowls!)

Pink Gum, head to the RHKYC on any Sunday morning and ask the sailors waiting around near the main bar. Let them know youare very keen to sail & most will be happy to sign for you after speaking with you for a few minutes.

nobody has mentioned the Aberdeen Boat Club, right next door to the AMC. It is VERY small but very family oriented, our family with two young kids loves it and I would recommend you check it out. It is not nearly as expensive as most of the other clubs and yet still has lots to offer and is a friendly place to hang out.

The mariners club in TST is pretty cheap, it is basic but they have a pool and it's a great place to watch the fireworks from.

Could anyone please share info regarding the monthly fee, parking fee and F&B for AMC? Thanks in advance.

Don't think AMC has their membership prices/fees on the web-site, but it used to be around HKD1.5 million (entrance fee plus debenture). Secondary market prices are somewhere around that level, I believe.
