Nanny Cameras-Legal or Illegal

ORIGINAL POST

Does anyone know if Nanny cameras are legal in hongkong. Is any one using them. Our maid has been going through are paper work in our study , when confronted she denied it but later admitted that she was afraid we were trying to interview another maid. I feel so violated when DHs listen in to all our conversations and have the cheek to look through our personal documents. So much for trying to trust them.

I would sugegst than if you don't trust your helper and are thinking about getting a cam, just get a new helper. She's going to live with you, and maybe look after your children... How can you go out of the house in a peaceful mind if you are always wondering what's happening while you're away ? Nanny cam is not the answer... A new helper you can trust is.

I worked for years in the airline industry and my employer made it clear to us that at anytime we could be filmed (not on the toilet though) I can't say I felt violated, after all if I was doing my job properly, thats all they would have seen right?

Foth

Iam not sure if your a parent and realize the fears that come with leaving your child with some one thats not family. I rather you not pass jugement on matters that you have no experience with. I dont need your lectures, your so generous with

Just curious, wouldn't it be pretty difficult to set up a nanny cam that your helper isn't aware of. The ones I have interviewed are university educated, and while they may not know how to disconnect the broadband connection, I'm sure they know what a web camera looks like.

Mummy, have you since purchased a safe or a drawer with a lock?

Just to make things clear we do intend telling the maid we are installing the nanny cam,its not just to keep a watch on her ,its also a security cam and a baby monitor ,while your child is asleep. I dont know why FOTH thinks its hypocritical considering we are all under survelillance ,be it a bank ,resturant or elseware.

i think maids will look and tidy up at the same time.i felt you should invest in a safety box.firing or changing them because of this dont help.humans are curious.keep your bank statements where is not supposed to be seen ,out of sight for example.

Mummy, I was asking just to see if you saw any improvement with a more secure place to store your valuables, not to suggest fault. Forgot you decided to go without a helper.

Cameras are legal.

In Pacific Place they have this cameras sistem that recorded ininterrupted throught a internet protect site for a week and you can check what's happening in your house throught your computer where ever you are.

They also sell this fake cameras that make a flashing light that can be use as a deterrent.

If your DH is a courious person the only way is not to leave around your private things ,or if you can't leave with it start looking for someone else.
