Bringing meat into HK

Just thought I would share this information for those who plan to bring their stores of sausages and roasts back from their home countries after Christmas.

Any person who imports into Hong Kong in the personal baggage solely for his personal use in an amount not exceeding 15 kilograms may be exempted from the requirement of an import licence provided that the meat or poultry in question is accompanied by a valid official certificate recognized by the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene.

What I want to know is how to get a valid official certificate from your friendly butcher in Australia?

I never have in the past 11 years - have always had the meat cryo vacuum pack where possible, and put in a big broccoli polystyrene box and just walked it through (about 80 kilos at a time - there are usually 5 of us) however, I wonder if they will start to get a bit tougher with the new "declare' system they are bringing in - I do know of people who have had their personal meat confiscated because they didn't have the certificate - not many but a few.

at least the customs officers have something to do now. before they were just a joke. jsut standing around chatting. in the numerous times that i have been through hong kong airport i have never seen anyone getting checked. my relatives from new zealand (this was about 2 years ago) couldn't beleive there were no checks when they passed through customs.

Had a delivery of about 15kg of meat in cryvac packs just recently and no check. Also 12 bottles of wine. The meat was in the checked in suitcase and the wine in two back packs which were hand luggage. Nothing checked.
