Last year I borrowed a friend's car to take my mom around to some rural areas while she was in town. At one point I was wanting to get off the highway at the next exit to turn around, and unfortunately the next exit happened to be Ma Wan, an area restricted to private cars.
Three months later I've received a summons to appear in court for driving in the restricted area. I wasn't even in Ma Wan, I was only on the offramp, but according to the security guard who took my information, they can prosecute me just for being on the offramp.
Does anyone have experience with this kind of thing? I'm just wondering what to expect when I go to court later this month. Do I have any recourse to plead not guilty and defend myself? Or do I just need to let them have their way with me?

My hubby did a similar thing - drive down a restricted area purely by accident as was following stupid satnav..... Security guard wouldn't let him turn round and made him give details etc.
We had the court summons a few weeks ago (offence was 4-5 months ago!). Had to pay 450hkd fine and waiting for verdict as to whether he will receive any points.
He claimed guilty by post - so didn't actually go into court himself. He didn't think there'd be any point as not sure how much English would be spoken.

Thanks Cluck. It sounds like your husband and I did exactly the same thing. So I'll be ready for a fine, and hopefully not much beyond that.
