1. It's nice to have somewhere away from the bustling, stressful city life. Everything seems to slow down around CWB/SK.
4. There's a new gym in SK, but I don't know anything about it. SK also has a public running track. There's an excellent pilates-etc studio called The Studio Sai Kung - Sarah's amazing.
5. There are several nice walking paths around CWB/SK.
6. I've never felt more safe than when living in CWB. We've never had a breakin and we've lived here for over 15 years.
8. There are plenty of RE agents, I'd suggest driving around and talking to a couple.

We live in a small village just outside Sai Kung Town and security has never been a problem, I have even left the front door open while I went shopping.Neighbours would know if anybody is a stranger.Much safer than living in a block of flats with a security guard.
Plenty of places to go for a walk.
Shops are very near to each other , library post office, nice restaurants.
Lots of young couples with children, kindergartens are of high standard as is the air quality.Visit both before making up your mind but you might find Sai Kung is cheaper.Estate agents in the area are good

1) its a much nicer, cleaner, fresher place to live, especially with a family. I live right in the middle between Clearwater Bay and Sai Kung and its great, we can be at the beach in 15 mins, Sai Kung in 15, and on a good run we canm be in Central in 30ins.
2) Its very easy to meet other mums here, there is a huge expat community in the area.
4) There is a public swimming pool in Sai Kung, several beaches, places to do yoga, pilates etc.
5)Any where in Clearwater Bay is good. Everywhere has a lot of greenery, most places either have a green view or sea view, and there are many expats all over. There are too many nice complexes and villages to list, it also depends on your budget and what size you're after.
6)Clearwater Bay is as safe as anywhere. Occassionally you hear of a breakin, although the last one I heard of in my area was over 4 years ago. Its generally II's looking for cash.
All the estate agents in the area specialise in places in CWB and Sai Kung. Theresa at Ricacorp in Marina Cove was very good to us, that is if she's still there, and Marco Ma at Eastmount properties. Definately come and have a good look around and see as many places as possible. The rents have gone up a lot in the last few months, apparently lots of people are moving over from HK island, but there are still a few bargains around. I lived in Jordan for a while but wouldn't want to live anywhere else after being out this way now.

We moved to Clearwater Bay 5 months ago from Kowloon Tong.... and I have kids, (2 year old and a newborn) and I have a dog..... we love living in this area. It's a little farther from the city, but if you drive it's not a problem at all. For the extra 15 minutes of driving than before, and I get to see the ocean, and breathe fresh air, and no car sounds at night...... everyday.... I feel like I am on vacation when I am at home. Definitely less stressful, good to be home ! My children's health have improved, and so have mine. I teach piano at home and out in Kowloon, my students now actually prefer coming into Clearwater Bay to take lessons b/c of the beautiful surroundings.
Our estate has top notch security.
Definitely the right decision for us.

We made the move about 6 months ago and love living out here. We've also just had baby no.1 so made the move for similar reasons. If you would like to talk with my wife let me know, I'm sure she would be keen to talk with other new mums in the area.

I have been living in CWB for more then 2 years now and before that just outside Saikung town for another 2 years. I love to live out here and it definitely helps with my health. I am quite allergic and the city makes my eyes itchy and my nose stuffed. I unfortunately realize that when I go into the office on Mondays.
CWB has our preferences above Saikung. If you need to get to the Island/Kowloon on a Sunday then you have to plan ahead. Traffic to get out of Saikung can be an issue.
CWB has beautiful houses for very reasonable prices. Some are now build in our area and they have great views (we don't like to live in a estate and found a great village house)
We prefer to do our shopping in Hang Hau were you have a big Jusco department store. Its so much cheaper then Park n Shop which you can find at Silverstrand. Although that one might have a better selection of western food, the choice at Jusco is big. Especially with fresh food. Besides that you have a the shops you need for household stuff etc.
And occasionally we will have lunch or dinner in the old Hang Hau village where you can find Thai, Chinese, Italian and Pizza restaurants.
We mostly enjoy the friendly atmosphere and green environment. We do not have kids yet but our dog loves it there.
Finally we are also able to have our maid to live out together with some other girls in a small flat in the village. Very nice. She comes early in the morning and leaves when we come home.
Most estate agents can be found in the Silverstrand shopping mall.
Good luck!

I'm also interested in living out in Sai Kung since we just found out we have a little one on the way! :)
It would be refreshing to have some peace & quiet+ better air.
Problem is convincing my husband.
He's very happy living in mid-levels... enjoys the 2 min taxi rides it takes to get to places like Soho,LKF,IFC etc.
His commute to work (mid-levels to Kwai Chung) is 40mins by taxi + MTR. He's content with that.
He's afraid if we live out in Sai Kung that his commute to work will take more time + be more inconvienant.
(which will make him grumpy! ...been there done that)
Besides that complaint, he says it's harder to get taxi's in Sai Kung (without having to call first), and treking over to my Obgyn/hospital would be inconvienant.
I like mid-levels too (easy access to various places, and lots of take-out food!) ;)
BUT....the noise here is getting to me & I'm ready for a change.
So how can I convince my man that living in Sai Kung will be better?
Anyone know how long a commute from Sai Kung to Kwai Chung will take?
Do we really need a car?...or is getting a taxi fairly easy like on the hkg side?
thks!

Try telling him about pollution which will be bad for the baby.Sai Kung to Kwai Chung will take about an hour depending which way you go, either Sha tin or via choi hung.Taxi's are easy to get depending on time of day.A car is handy if you live outside Sai Kung town in a small village like what we do
